Ok, here they are! They arrived six days before my birthday, and I couldn't resist trying them!
So far, the improvement over my previous Sennheiser HD-595 is evident in all departments: deeper bass (but VERY well controlled, not bloated at all and it does NOT smear on other frequencies), crystal clear highs (but not fatiguing or bright), a good rendition of voices, nice separation, speed and attack. It doesn't get congested or muddy in the heaviest tracks from my prog-metal CDs, and it mantains an excellent soundstage for a closed can. All the frequencies are rendered neutrally, and while wonderfully integrated you can clearly feel all the contributions, from the drums, to the guitars, to the voice, to the keyboards. And all of this without burn-in... so I expect them to get even better. Of course, powered by my Solo SRG, that goes without saying... Only slightly negative note: I am not a fan of leather pads, they tend to make my ears sweat a little bit, but I guess it's just a matter of getting used to them. Another good thing is that these cans seem to have a good sound quality and clarity even at moderate listening volume. With the HD-595 I had to turn the volume higher to get a "satisfying" sound. With the Denon, I still like to listen "loud", but I can also enjoy mid volume.

Ouch, I am listening to the Grungy Gonads Mix of Depeche Mode's "Walking in my shoes" and the thumping bass is IMPRESSIVE. Again, not bloated or veiled... but POWERFUL and mean, the way it should be (as I remember it from my dancefloor days...).

Three days later... and I am even more satisfied of my purchase!
I have fed the Denons everything: Nick Cave, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Mark Knopfler, King Crimson (the new re-release of "Red" in 24 bits/96 Khz), Dream Theater, R.E.M., Metallica... and they shone with all of them. Such a seamless, creamy and clean rendition of my favorite albums is absolutely heart warming. The bass is liquid, precise, never overpowering but intense when it needs to be. With these headphones, I am falling into the "one more song" syndrome... I should go to sleep, but I want to keep listening! No fatigue at all, pure pleasure. Definitely recommended! |

My D7000's get more head time than any of my other full sized cans.
I also am as impressed by them as you. Try out the J Money leather pads as a low cost 'real' leather ipgrade. That is the only mod I have done to them. Enjoy Sceptre |

Well, three months have passed... and I love the Denons even more.
Really, I never thought that headphones could sound this good: I never miss speakers when I have them on. Lovely, lovely, lovely. The clarity, the speed, the creamy mids, the rich but not overpowering bass, the clean and never shrill highs must be heard to be believed. I think I have defeated "upgradeitis" forever: if I had to buy another headphone today, it would certainly be another AH-D7000. |

I am very converted to headphone with the Audio Technica ATH AD 700.... preferred against the Grado and Senheiser of similar price. For comfort, velvety cloth around the ear pads and unique head band. Above all, the high mids are clear and whilst I have experienced bass as an effect rather than an instrument note, well the Audio Technica AD 700 returned the very timbre of bass instruments without overpowering all other instruments ...hence bass instruments are in context but not the music.......and much much more satisfying balance of instruments in the experiece of music.

A number of reviews have said that the 7000's are a very small incremental improvement over the slightly cheaper 5000's and much cheaper 2000's. Par for the course in "hi-fi" then!
Did you hear the other models before settling on the 7000's , and if so, do you agree? |
