Hi,
Graham - thanks! My Novo test sample arrives yesterday and I had about 4 ...5 hours time to make a short compare between Solo, Novo and my headphone "drove" AKG K702, K271MKII, Sennheiser HD 600 AND Denon AH-D7000

My first impression about green Solo vs. Novo with Denon AH-D7000, K271, K702
it's hard to detect a difference, but I must say I my focus was the Denon AH-D7000.
Sometimes I had the feeling Solo express the highs better, but if I cannot reproduce (cannot catch) it.
Both running parallel, so I could switch between in short time.

Solo and Novo have no problems to drive the 25 OHM of the Denon.

More about the Denon AH-D7000

More about (my review) please see ....  coming soon, today or tomorrow!

PS: Graham you made the Solo competition in your own house Wink

Hi Fritz,
You don't really mean what you write here?Confused
"Both running parallel, so I could switch between in short time"

Because if you really would drive them in parallel, they would IMO influence eachother like so, that IMO you WILL get very small differences.Ermm

Probably you do mean that you run them at the same time, with same sort IC's?
Or am I totally mistaken, please explain?

Novo have in- and output cinch's, the signal is only loop through, in- and output cinch's are electrically parallel.
This should not get problems or influence effects. Electrically the Marantz CD player drive only both potentiometers in parallel. Influences could only comes from the SMPSU's.
Only the inputs of both amps running parallel! Both amps are power on.

In this configuration I could switch quick between - I replug only the headphone jack. Or could drive two different headphones shareable.

But sometimes I use the Reflex + Solo combo - two SMPSU's are working too.

Graham - what did you say about?

Today I make a new compare test

Novo --> K701 / Solo --> K702 or
Novo --> K702 / Solo --> K701

After intensive test hearing between all I could not say that there are a significant difference between the both amps or the both headphones.

Interestingly, to me at least, Jake had similar experience using K701 and CD source.

Only when he used vinyl source was he able to reliably detect differences.

I certainly found it easier to detect differences using ATH-W1000.

I thought the Solo to be more extended top and bottom and more detailed, with the Novo a little more rounded and somewhat fuller in the mid-upper bass.

I would expect the SRG to open the gap somewhat.

next test before I send it to the next reviewer ....

Gustav Mahler, Symphony No1, Blumine
Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, David Zinman
SACD (DDD)

Novo vs. Solo - headphone Denon AH-D7000 (25 OHM)

With assurance I cannt say there is an difference, but I have the feeling ..... it's a very subjective thing .... imagination or not?

the bass are with Novo a little bit tightly controlled as with Solo
the highs are with Solo a little bit clearer, silkier as with Novo

Comparing with WNA MKII
the bass are with WNA MKII a little bit tightly controlled as with Novo

For pics please from the headphones see here:

Frederik, I am surprised by your results. I felt that the Green Solo was a bit better than the Novo. Mostly in extension (higher frequencies), deeper base, and more detail, I believe the newer Solo SRG is even better so I would have expected you to hear a difference.

I hope to get a Solo SRG from Graham and will be comparing it w/ the Novo.
